On this solo trip, I did not care who I went to, but rather just went to a series of hot springs with a “let’s try a hot spring anyway” attitude.
Is Beppu Onsen Moisturizing?
The heat retention power?
I was still sweating after getting out…!
And yet, my skin was moist and I think I came home with a little more beautiful skin.
This time we visited the Beppu Station area and Kannawa area, and would like to introduce the hot springs we actually entered.

It gives the impression of THE local people’s public hot spring.
Will tourists come…?
It gives a heartwarming impression that the locals are chatting and laughing in a place of relaxation. It must be a hot spring with a long history and it is a very good hot spring for a quick dip at a low price!
It is a bit far from Beppu station, but not too far to walk. I walked there as a walk after lunch, but it might be quite hard if you are asked to walk under the scorching sun!
Please bring your own body soap, shampoo, and towels if necessary, as this is a public hot spring.

The bathing area was very spacious and liberating!
The facility itself was new and the bathrooms were very spacious. I visited around 1pm and were told that cleaning would be done at 2pm, so please pay attention to the time of day.
I got the impression that many of the locals were very friendly and helpful inside the hot springs, showing me how to enter.
It is nice to have a hot spring that is loved by the locals, and at any rate, I would be happy with the low price and this spa!
Please bring your body soap, shampoo, and towels if necessary, as this is a public hot spring.

A yukata fee is required in addition to the admission fee, but you can wear short sleeves, short pants, etc. on your own.
But not the clothes you wore when you came to the museum, you must bring your own
Simply put, there is a stone iris on top of the rock bath, and you are steamed on it for 8 (~10) minutes, and then you can enter the hot spring as you wish. Only one turn is allowed in the steamed bath.
It was pleasant to feel the sweat pouring out of my sweat glands, which probably haven’t been open lately. I went in twice during this trip.
Asking some of the regular madams, many of them seemed to feel the benefits, such as their feet feeling better.
They also advised me to come in the morning when the stone irises are wet. (Some people also moisten them in the afternoon, but I was told it depends on the head keeper lol).
Hyotan Onsen
It’s like a hot spring theme park. I could spend a whole day here.

As you can see from the official website, it was a hot spring with plenty of entertainment.
There are sand baths and family baths (private baths), and the main hot spring is large and spacious, with a cypress bath, a bath for hitting, several types of indoor baths, an open-air bath, a steam bath, a water bath, etc.
Please try to conquer them all. The main hot spring was like this.
I liked hyotan-onsen the following three points
- The spacious open-air baths (two types) and the rocky area to cool off if you got too warm
- The steam baths were authentic (too hot to stay in for more than a minute)The water baths were authentic water baths that properly cooled the hot spring water.
- The water bath was a real water bath with properly cooled hot spring water.
After taking a bath, visitors can enjoy a hot spring bath or try steaming in hell, where they can also have a meal.
I spent half a day in the hot spring, juice at the after-bath area, and then went back to the hot spring.

Takegawara Onsen
This is a historic public hot spring that is associated with Beppu.
This reigns as one of the top hot springs I would like to visit on a trip to Beppu, but since I had been there once, I didn’t go through with it.
I knew it was quaint, including the exterior

Onsen at Daikokuya inn
Very hot, but that’s good.
It was a family bath-style hot spring that could be entered at any time as long as it was available.
The first time I took the first bath in the rock bath, it was so hot that I had to turn the water faucet all the way up, but I still couldn’t stay in for more than 10 minutes.
I would repeatedly return to the bath after drinking cold water afterwards.
If the inn had a hot spring like this, I’d be totally satisfied even if I didn’t have to go to other paid hot springs.
Check here for reservations at the inn.
It is not listed on other hotel reservation sites, so we recommend making an online reservation with Jalan!
What’s Jalan?
Jaran is Japan Hotels & Ryokan Booking Site!
It’s a common booking site in Japan.
summary
I bathed and fluffed up two or three times each day.
The hot spring baths retain heat and moisture each time you enter, making you sweat, but when the outside breeze hits you, the sweat gradually recedes, and you realize that it is a pleasant sweat that is not sticky.
In the public hot springs, local people enjoyed conversing with each other like a well-wisher, and the madams seemed to be enjoying themselves very much, which made me envious.
The trip to Beppu Onsen made me want to visit again already on the first day.
I would like to come back anytime, even in my old age…!
