Silence the Shokz Beep: The Ultimate Guide to Muting Your Headphones

OTHRES

I purchased a pair of Shokz bone-conduction earphones when I started telecommuting.
I think more and more people I know around me are using bone-conduction earphones these days.

I am very comfortable with good voice quality, my voice is not muffled, I can hear sounds around me (intercom), my ear canals don’t itch, etc.

The only thing I would like to see is a forced solution to the beep sound during online meetings on Teams.
I would like to see the specs changed….

I hope this will be helpful to all of you who have the same problem!

Shokz Specifications

I thought it might be a PC malfunction, so I investigated and found that Shokz specifies that if you mute your audio during online MTG, you will hear a periodic beep.

Regular is also about once every 2 seconds.

And then, ringing in my ears, more insistent than the speaker’s voice, “Peeep! Peeeep!” sound

It’s not echoing in the speaker’s voice, but the beeps are making my bones echo!!

As the Shokz side has declared that it is a specification and cannot be changed, the choice is to wait for the specification change, be patient, or try a workaround.

In this issue, we will introduce a workaround, albeit a forced one, in concrete terms using Teams.

Beep workaround (Teams)

First of all, I think everyone has Teams set to the headset for both audio input and output on both PCs and smartphones.

Especially if you are using a PC, please set the headset as the default device in the Windows sound settings.
“Recording” (voice input) is also fine with the headset.

Windows sound settings screen

Next is the screen during a Teams meeting.
Change device settings in APL for Teams.

Change the microphone setting when your voice is muted.

Blue: Headset( beep Microphone array)
Red : Microphone array( avoid beep )

When set to the microphone array, this will not beep when muted.

However, if you unmute and speak with this setting, it will pick up sound from the PC’s microphone.
This will prevent you from using the high quality sound of the Shokz microphone, and will also cause a rattling sound when typing.
Please change the microphone setting to 1-Click before unmuting.

Changing the microphone settings is a pain in the ass.

I Know.
I am one of those people who thought it was a hassle at first.
But you can’t beat the noise of the beep.

I now participate in meetings this way.

summary

If you have arrived at this page, I assume you have the same problem.

We hope that Shokz will change the specifications, and in the meantime, we would like to refer to this as a workaround.
